A new squad called “The Megabites” was launched in Pretoria today in an effort to crack down on internet fraud (also known as cyber crime) which now costs South Africa almost a billion Rand annually.

“Once you have been bitten by the Megabites, your days of taking advantage of ‘Technophobes’ will soon be over”, said Maponyana in response to concerns about whether or not the “Megabytes” would be effective or not.

He added, “Members of the unit have been chosen very carefully and their uniforms were specifically designed to stand out from other police uniforms so that there will be no confusion about jurisdiction at crime scenes where offenses were being investigated.
